Viva Zoom became hugely popular with themes such as WordPress Newspaper that utilized the power of Viva to generate thumbnails on the fly without custom fields. Although WordPress core now creates image variations as they are uploaded to the gallery – Viva generates them at any time, meaning you can add image thumbnails easily and quickly when needed – like when you need them for a new theme or third party plugin such as Dynamic Gallery or Featured Content Gallery for example. And best of all Viva eradicates the need to use Custom Fields EVER.
Viva Imageworks uses the core WP Featured Image functionality to decide which image goes with which post and will then generate correctly sized images on the fly. You can set a default ‘No Picture available' image for your entire site or specify a default image for each category.
